The Hong Kong Jockey Club Sichuan Treasures and Giant Panda Adventure

We are deeply honored to participate in the enhancement project for the panda habitat at Ocean Park, Hong Kong, following the generous gift of giant pandas from the Chinese government. Tasked with this prestigious project, our team dedicated itself to creating a comfortable and enriching environment for these beloved national treasures while infusing the panda pavilion with a distinctive artistic flair to make it a standout attraction at Ocean Park.

After extensive brainstorming and creative exploration, we decided to focus on designing innovative and culturally inspired “furniture” for the pandas. Our goal was to blend functionality, comfort, and aesthetic appeal. We proposed two unique and engaging concepts to Ocean Park, seamlessly combining practicality with artistic expression:

1. "Dragon Throne" Resting Area

Drawing inspiration from ancient millennial trees, we designed a majestic “Dragon Throne” as a resting spot for the pandas. This throne not only exudes grandeur with its intricate design but also incorporates ergonomic principles to provide optimal support for the pandas’ backs, ensuring maximum comfort. Crafted from natural wood and eco-friendly materials, the throne features delicate bamboo leaf carvings, reflecting both the pandas’ esteemed status in Hong Kong and a harmonious blend of nature and culture.

2. "Tree Hollow Playground" Interactive Tunnel

To showcase the pandas’ playful and endearing nature, we created an interactive tunnel modeled after a hollowed-out ancient tree. Strategically placed closer to the visitor viewing area, this tunnel allows guests to observe the pandas’ joyful antics up close. The interior is designed to mimic a natural tree hollow, enabling the pandas to climb, explore, and move freely in a safe and engaging environment. The exterior adopts a streamlined design with soft, natural tones, ensuring it blends seamlessly with the surrounding environment while adding visual appeal.

Project Challenges and Innovative Solutions

Our design philosophy centers on creating a panda habitat that is both functional and visually captivating, offering the pandas a comfortable home while delighting visitors with its cultural depth and creative design. We are excited about the opportunity to contribute to Ocean Park’s legacy, transforming the panda pavilion into a unique highlight that elevates Hong Kong’s tourism experience.
